The High Cost of Failing to Reform Public Education in Indiana
This study finds that one year’s worth of high school dropouts cost Indiana taxpayers $62.5 million per year in lost tax revenue and higher Medicaid and incarceration costs. A school choice program in that increased private school enrollment by 5 percentage points would reduce public school dropouts by 2,000 to 4,000 students, saving taxpayers between $6 million and $12 million every year.
